When you strip away boundaries, cultural lines, and superficial differences, we can sill be seen as being part of the same human race. The goaUhen, for each of us, is to see one another without any prior context tnat may color our perception. Consider the words of J. Krishnamurti: “When you look at a flower, at a color, without naming it, without like or dislike, without any screen between you and the thing you see as a flower, without the word, without thought, then the flower has an extraordinary color and. beauty. But when you look at the flower through botanical knowledge, when you say, ‘This is a rose,’ you have already conditioned your response.” Profound loss, such as the death of a loved one, brings into relief the choices we make with our time and energy.
