Flint Hill Beauty Alicia Jones, Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department Carnival Queen 1999, receives her crown from the 1998 Carnival Queen, Victoria Hudson. Alicia will enter the ninth grade at Rappahannock County High School at the end of August and is the daughter of Howard and Peggy Jones of Flint Hill. Alicia thanks residents for supporting her and looks forward to riding in parades and participating in various related activities over the next year as she holds this title.

program, English tea By Joan Gannon Rappahannock News Contributing Writer The Rappahannock County Garden Club enjoyed a presentation on the “Development of the English Garden” by Dr. Aileen Laing at its July 20 meeting. Dr. Laing described characteristics of English gardens of the Eighteenth and Twentieth centuries and presented a slide program of Sissinghurst and Stourehead Gardens to the members. Following the program the members held their business meeting. During the meeting, Betty Wood gave a report on the field trip some of the members took to the Garden Club Nature Camp at Vesuvius, Va. Camper Christopher Beck of Rappahannock County was sponsored by the Garden Club and will present a program to the members on his experiences at camp later this year. Flower and vegetable displays were judged by Judy Frey of the Madison County Garden Club. Winners of blue ribbons were Mary Priest, Mary Revercomb, Ruth Baumgardner, Karen Graves and Carol Miller. The hostesses, Joan Herrema, Helen Bridges and Flo Phillips prepared refreshments modeled after an English Tea.
