The couple s hrst toast was from antique silver goblets, which were originally a wedding gift to the groom’s great grandfather, Harry Shawen upon his marriage to Miss Lois Leonard of the Hilton area of Newport News.
The flowers, which were designed by Pat and Sherry Roberts of Madison, were blue hydrangeas, pink peonies, white English roses and sweet peas all arranged in antique silver vases from the bride’s mother’s antique shop in Alexandria.
Prenuptial events included an engagement party in Newport News given by Mr. and Mrs. Victor D. Kane Sr. and Dr. and Mrs. O. Watts Booth, a lake side dinner party, also in the Tidewater area, hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Richard Chance, Dr. and Mrs. James Davis and Mr. and Mrs. William Carpenter, and a ladies luncheon at the Weaver homeplace, hosted by Mrs. Jean Butler Gibbs and Mrs. Jane Butler Thornhill, aunts of the bride, and Mrs. Carol Stehl Butler.
