Last Wednesday’s torrential rains flooded the area around Sperryville with .9 inches of rain, according to weather watcher Dennis Wingfield. He reported that a total of 8.42 inches of rain fell during July, and that daytime temperatures averaged six degrees cooler than last year. The average rainfall for July is 3.85 inches, he added. The Boy Scouts of Troop 50, Amissville and Troop 123, Washington attended summer camp at Camp Rock Enon in Gore, Va. from July 16-22. The five scouts from Amissville were John Mallory, Senior Patrol Leader, James Stone, Asst. Senior Patrol Leader, Luke Zindel, Aaron Griffith and Djuan Martin. The two scouts from Washington were Bryan Clark and Justin Day. Scout Masters Butch Zindel and Skippy Giles also attended camp with their troops. While on the trip John Mallory advanced in rank to First Class Scout.
