Sunnyside Institute planned
Rappahannock organic farmers and those interested in developing organic capabilities could benefit directly from Cole’s network and from his planned Sunnyside Institute. The sales potential of an expanded Walnut Acres website may require a concomitant expansion of production capacity, and local organic farmers might serve as additional supply sources.
The Sunnyside Institute is designed to be a resource to “promote restorative and sustainable agricultural methods,” said Cole.
If approved by Rappahannock authorities, he said, “we will build facilities at Sunnyside to house the institute, which will hold public discussion groups, panels, lectures, conferences, and other similar programs. These programs will bring together experts in environmentally sensitive farming techniques, and disseminate to all parts of the agricultural community the most recent and complete data on these subjects, in an effort to slow the abandonment of farm land for other uses and reduce the deleterious effects of environmentally hostile techniques in agriculture.”
