Born and raised in Amissville, Jan is an RCHS alumnus. “There were 39 kids in my class. We didn’t have many other things to do outside school, and there were only a few sports. Our whole class did everything together like a iamily. They were some of the best friends I’ve ever had,” she said reflecting on her experiences at RCHS.

After high school, Jan attended Virginia Commonwealth University and earned a degree in elementary education.

Jan lived away from Rappahannock for 20 years and spent most of that time teaching at a school in Virginia Beach. She taught second and third grade and alsd helped out as a resource teacher in fourth through seventh grade classes. She was awarded teacher of the year for her excellence.

According to Jan, being away from Rappahannock caused her to realize how much she missed the county.
