The Waldorf curriculum is music and arts based, and its elements are integrated to enhance the lessons of one subject with the skills learned in another. History texts, for example, are nonexistent, but the students create their own from their lessons and readings, and do so with illustrations and calligraphy to produpe personal texts that are reminiscent of Medieval hand-colored tomes.
The curriculum is designed to flow and maintain continuity as the child progresses. In science, the younger child is shown the beauty and wonder of nature, both by seeing and touching, then builds in concert with the child’s development to the more abstract, while always focusing on hands-on study and observation.
Continuity is maintained in child nurturing as well. In the lower school, the child and teacher advance through the grades together. The teacher then comes to know and understand her students better and better, and can gauge and react to their development with unparalleled effectiveness.
