Discovering what we can learn from the tiniest of creatures was the focus of the local shooting. The children were encouraged to participate fully in the collection of a wide variety of small creatures. The crew was endless is creating continual learning experiences for the children and parents.
Crew members included Mace Vaughan, entomologist from Cornell University, cinematographer Keith Brust from Tucson, Ariz. and sound recordist George Schafnacker from Wellfleet, Mass., who had flown in from Egypt on another location.
While the crew set up the cameras and planned each shot, Mace explored the fields and creeks, delighting in sharing his finds that included a ladybug pupae, a leech, and other specimens. There was a lesson at every opportunity. Continual playfulness became part of every day. Each crew member was given an endear1 ing nickname selected by the children.
