During the public comments portion of the March Planning Commission meeting, Scott Handshy spoke of his and his wife’s recent health-related move here from Culpeper.
The health problems that beset his family were related to land application of sewage sludge, he said, and the Handshys moved here because of the County’s ban on that process.
Because a recent Virginia Supreme Court ruling negated Rappahannock County’s sludge ban the County must develop regulations to control and monitor sludge application, and Mr. Handshy offered his expertise to the County in support of its regulatory development efforts.
County Administrator John McCarthy informed the Planning Commissioners that a draft set of regulations should be in their by May off this year.
