Leading with an incontrovertible quote, a new brochure produced by MW/A of Sperryville for the Friends of the Rappahannock County Library seeks memberships and contributions from the community to support the Friends sole beneficiary— the Rappahannock County Public Library, of course.
According to the brochure (and verified by any visit to the library), the Friends provides “thousands of volunteer hours,” and funds for purchases of equipment, services and supplies including books, audio and video tapes, new computers, Internet access, and building maintenance and landscaping. At the March meeting of the Library Board of Trustees, Library Director David Shaffer reported that the new brochure has already resulted in a number of contributions and new memberships, and he expects that this new campaign will be quite successful. In his report to the Board, he also noted that the Virginia Library Board has reduced its contribution to local libraries by $780,000 for FY 2001-2002, but he is not yet certain of the effect that this cut will have on the
