daughters, Mary Helen and Frances Sory, alone for long periods when sea duty took John to Korea and the Mediterranean.
Mary was a devoted, fulltime wife and mother. She was honest, friendly, kind, helpful, loving. She volunteered at the military hospital in Hawaii, worked for worthy causes and as a fund raiser, while never failing to help friends during family crises. Completely natural and modest, she was impressed by peoples’ characters and hearts - not by rank, status, wealth or power. She wasn’t prudish, but none of us ever heard her use profanity, tell a questionable joke or make fun of others.
Mary loved music and her piano, dancing, flowers and gardening. Completely devoted to family, friends and neighbors, she was always ready with her beautiful, warm smile and a kind word.
Mary Marocchi was not perfect, but to those of her family, children and grandchildren whom she loved so dearly and protected as fiercely as a mother bear her cubs, she was truly “the wind beneath our wings.”
