Mary Province Marocchi of Sperryville died at Fauquier Hospital on Wednesday evening, March 21.
Bom and raised in Canon City, Colo., Mrs. Marocchi was the daughter of the late David Gilbert and Lida Sheets Province.
Trained as a registered nurse, Mrs. Marocchi served in the United Sates Navy during World War II, completing tours at naval hospitals in Mare Island, Calif, and Samar, Phillipine Islands.
During her naval service, she met and married her husband, whom she accompanied around the world during a career spanning almost 30 years, making friends of all kinds everywhere she went.
Since retirement in 1975, she continued to devote herself to the nurture of her family, home, garden and friends.
Mrs. Marocchi is survived by her husband, John Louis Marocchi, Rear Admiral, USN, Ret., of their home in Sperryville; their two daughters, Helen Marocchi Iwanik of Fredericksburg and Sory Marocchi Klump of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; her sister, Helen Province Colon of Canon City, Colo.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a long-time member of the Rappahannock County Garden Club and volunteered over the years for the American Red Cross and the Sperryville Rescue Squad.
A grave side ceremony was held on Monday, March 26 at Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 2524 Honor Guard and American Legion Post 330.
