the town stuck in my brain,” she said. “It’s a small seaside town, but the medina (a walled enclosure) is where the people live, cook and buy what they need. The medina is pure white and blue — striking, very clean.
“What makes Asilah special is there’s an international art festival every year, and artists paint murals on the walls. “The people are wonderful, the food is wonderful, and nobody goes there.”
So Asilah is the first stop on Reynolds’ Morocco tour, and it makes a good contrast to the next destination, the city of Fez.
“Fez is overwhelming,” said Reynolds. “The medina is huge — four entrances, a tannery, jewelry shops, all the fresh foods. And the people are living right there, so you can see how they buy and sell to their own people, not just to tourists.
