Fresh Air Program. We grew so attached to them that as their lives changed (they moved to New Jersey and later to California), we continued to keep in touch and they continued to visit us during the summer. Our summer visits were filled with picnics, swimming in the local rivers, horseback riding, collecting fireflies, camping, nurturing turtles, and eating good, old-fashioned country cooking!
As the years rolled by, we all visited and stayed in touch with phone calls and letters. We still eryoy the wonderful pictures taken throughout the years. They have become an integral part of our family.
Our daughter visited California on several occasions, once to participate as maid-ofhonor in Michelle’s wedding.
Michael married and has three children. While his visits to Virginia have been limited, he continues to keep in touch and treasures his many childhood memories in Virginia.
We have been blessed to have had such special people come into our lives. Now we see their children growing up to show us as much love and respect. Through all the years, they have always referred to us as “Nana and Grandpa”.
