Denise Wingfield
Denise Wingfield of Park View High School is Loudoun County’s Gifted Education Teacher of the Year. She was selected from n field of candidates nominated by principals, parents and co-workers.
She received a plaque designating this award at the Northern Virginia Council for Gifted/Talented Education conference held at Potomac Falls High School on March 10.
Ms. Wingfield has taught biology at Park View for seven years and in Fauquier county for six. According to a letter she submitted about her career, Wingfield’s love of teaching goes back to age four.
“My dad was a high school principal and I would visit him quite often, sitting behind the big desk in his office, accompanying him to basketball games and the like.
“I think I decided then and there that he had a really cool job because he got to hang out with kids all day long and what could be better than that? So I took it upon myself to start teaching.”
She went on to state that her stuffed animals were very well educated.
By the time she graduated high school, however, Wingfield decided that teaching wasn’t for her. , “Funny thing was. that I think my father knew deep down there was a teacher there just waiting to be unleashed. So he ‘suggested’ that I take the required education classes in order to be certified to teach biology. I, of course, was going to the junBreeden's
