A short inscription engraved on a bronze plaque fastened to the wall of the new baseball dugouts simply says “Another community service by the Rappahannock Lions Club.” Tb some of the Lions that brief message might seem to be a masterpiece of understatement, because the plaque commemorates the largest contribution of man hours and money ever provided to a single project, so far.
The Lions have always been enthusiastic supporters of the county’s athletic programs. Lion Joel Daczewitz, Chairman of our Education Service Committee has helped us stay that Way. Joel is a great cheerleader.
The Dugout Dedication Ceremony at the baseball field on Sept. 5 attracted a large and very distinguished assembly of community leaders. Their purpose was not to root for the Rappahannock home team, but to provide earned recognition for a major accomplishment by a small but dedicated Lion team. There was no game scheduled with an opposing team but there was an outpouring of enthusiastic support, gratitude and lots of kudos for a difficult task “well done”.
The Lions Club membership was well represented by their new President, Gary Settle, who thanked the crowd of V.I.P.’s for their attendance and strong support given the project. There was nostalgic human interest noted since both the
