There was no person in the county who was better known or needed more than the country doctor.

In the former years this was a dedicated practice, because they traveled to where ever they were needed on horse. They made calls to everyone who sent for them, even follow-up calls when it was necessary. The weather never interfered, neither the hour of day or night

The doctor administered his own medicine, delivered babies, and performed emergency surgery. They carried a black case which had many different kinds of medicines in preparation for whatever was needed for the particular situation.

He was able to handle most sickness that arose until it was possible to send patients to hospitals where scientific equipment was available.

Money was scarce so many of the patients would pay with whatever the doctor would accept in return for his service, such as hay, oats, wood, lard, apples, cider, potatoes or anything that was plentiful.

There have been many doctors throughout the county, and they were all outstanding with their dedicated services.
