Girls* Basketball
1 It wasn’t opening night on Tuesday, Sept. 4, it wasn’t our gym, it wasn’t somebody we normally play , and it wasn’t as hot as the week before — neither were we. The girls’ varsity basketball team suffered a tough loss at the home of a new Division “A” opponent — Central High School of .Woodstock.
; The Falcons moved down frptn Double “AA” this year and joined the Shenandoah District. Last Tuesday, they were fired up for our Lady Panthers. They were in for a big surprise as our girls quickly silenced the home crowd and went into the halftime intermission with a nine point lead.
; However, the Lady Falcons came out after the half and fought back, finishing the third quarter down by two 37-35. The Lady Panthers couldn’t sustain their first half effort and relinquished the lead with three minutes to go, in the game. The girls never got it back and the game ended with Woodstock on top by the score of 55 to 51.
Senior Gwen Johnson had a stellar night making eight field goals and sinking 12 of 17 from the line for a total of 28 points.
The JV squad had a tough time of it prior to the varsity game. The game was pretty one-sided and ended with the Central JV girls as winners by the score of 46 to 15.
. Freshman Rachel Gall had seven points to lead the JV Lady Panthers in the losing effort.
