Should Children
Attend Funerals?
Today, child development experts generally agree that fiveand six-year-olds should be given the opportunity to attend a funeral, particularly when they have lost someone close to them. This includes members of the immediate or extended family, a neighbor or family friend, as well as a classmate. This recommendation is based on the notion that the reality of the funeral and burial ceremonies is often less troubling than the fantasies held in the minds of children denied the experience. The funeral ritual also offers a tangible framework through which children can begin to engage in he process of grieving. Every society has some form of ceremony to help the living acknowledge, accept and cope with the loss of a loved one. More and more we understand . how much children understand, and more and more, we are able to offer them the support they need to cope with loss that is real for them as well. At the Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave., Warrenton, we offer numerous prearrangement plans because we know what a gift it can be to a family. It helps everyone know just what you want and also protects them financially. For a tour, call 540-347-3431.
