Panther girls’ team traveled to Warrenton and played the middle school team of the same name. This was their second game this season and the girls got a good look at what middle school teams can look like from bigger programs. Led by eighth graders Lisa Maloney and Daniela Siccardi with four points each, the Junior Panthers fell 36 tol5.
Thursday, Sept. 6 saw the Lady Panthers on the road again, as they traveled to Luray to finish this years’ home and away series. The RCHS side had won the first meeting here for their home opener by the score of 59 to 36. Tiie Lady Bulldogs were out for revenge and the vocal home crowd was just as fired up.
Senior point-guard Johnson, the catalyst of the offense and team leader committed her first foul 10 seconds into the game. When she committed her third foul before the first quarter ended, Head Coach Mike Dayton pulled her and sat her down for the rest of the first half. The result was disastrous for the Lady Panthers who could not seem to get things going without Johnson.
The first half ended with Luray on top 28 to 14. In the second half the Lady Panthers came out charging. Senior Amanda Weakley made some layups and Johnson added a couple of three-pointers to cut the lead in half. When the third quarter was over the Luray lead was down to 34-27.
