This weekend, for the sixth year in a row, the Rappahannock Music Festival will provide two days of free music in the field next to Sperryville’s Mountainside .Market Nearly all of the musicians in the 22 acts live or work in Rappahannock County.
On Saturday the concert starts at 1 p.m. and continues until 8:30. On Sunday the show starts at 1:30 and ends with a Community Drum Circle around the bonfire that begins at 8 p.m. Drum Circle leader Janet Kerig invites everyone to bring a drum and join in.
Many different styles of music will be presented. Classical, Jazz, Deep South Blues, Bluegrass, Old Time, Folk, Reggae, Country, and Rock will be played on various instruments that include harp, saxophone, mandolin, violin, and guitar. Some of the songs may be familiar, and many will be original.
The format allows the audience to get close and intimate with the performers, or one can set up camp in the rear of the field and let the P.A. carry the music. Two bleachers are provided near the stage. Many people bring their folding chairs, blankets, even tents, and take in the concert picnic style. Both days are great
Sculpture
class set
Young people's fall portrait sculpture class for children ages 11 and up will be held for eight consecutive Mondays.
The sessions will be held Sept. 17 through Nov. 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and the cost of $160.
Classes will be taught by Charles E. Flickinger at the Oldway Art Center at 11794 Lee Highway in Sperryville.
