A series of articles in The Free Lance-Star served to publicize the hiring plight of Sheriff Sherertz and other State sheriffs, and Sheriff Sherertz concluded by saying that “there will be an emergency meeting of the Compensation Board today, Sept. 15,” that apparently resulted from the publicity.
Sheriff Sherertz then left the meeting, but returned later (with a smile on his face) to tell the Board that the SCB had met and that they informed him that his hires were approved and that he would get full funding for the positions, retroactive to Sept. 1.
