State champs

The September Board of Supervisors meeting opened with a presentation of “State championship” pins to each of the members of the Lady Panthers Softball team by Chairman Pete Estes, and by the passing of a resolution recognizing that accomplishment and its positive impact on the community.
In a pre-Board meeting event, Lion’s Club President Gary Settle hosted a ceremony dedicating baseball dugouts at the new athletic fields. The dugouts were funded and constructed by the Lions, and most members of the Board of Supervisors and the School Board, as well as Superintendent Dr. David Gangel and County Administrator John McCarthy were present to participate.

In his report to the Board, Dr. Gangel noted that the schools had a “smooth opening,” and that public school enrollment is higher than expected with an enrollment of 1033 on Sept. 5, compared to enrollment estimates of 1020. What this could equate to, according to Dr. Gangel, is State funding greater than budget estimates.
Mr. McCarthy provided an update on the school capital projects that were scheduled for completion over the summer. He told the Board that the RCES lagoon repair work had not been completed, but that the lagoon was expected back on-line that day (Sept. 5) and that anew inflow pipe would be installed within the next few
