placed on public land, Rappahannock County would now have the opportunity to help solve the fire and rescue communications problem and at the same time gain a new revenue source to directly benefit our fire and rescue services.
The new revenue source would be in addition to the fire tax levy assessments which for the year 2000 for Rappahannock County for real property was $229,176.76 and for personal property was $91,474.47. This information was obtained from the Rappahannock County Treasurer’s Office.
When you divide these figures among six volunteer fire and rescue companies it does not amount to much when a new fire truck costs from $100,000 to $250,000 and a new ambulance costs from $90,000 to $150,000,
Locating the cell towers at the six fire and rescue stations would also permit the radio antennas a higher elevation to increase coverage.
There will not be a tfell tower at Sperryville or Castleton. The seven locations are three in Jackson District, two in Wakefield, and two in Hampton District. Piedmont and Stonewall-Hawthome will not get a cell tower.
