Like the proverbial horse and carriage, Jane and Maurice Herndon go together. So do Trinity Episcopal Church’s Dried Flower Sale and House Tour. Put them all together and you get a wonderful mix!
Jane and Maurice, both of whom turned 90 this summer, have worked on the Trinity fall event since 1976. Jane was chairman and co-chairman for several years, and she made dried flower arrangements almost every year. Maurice has been publicity chairman.
For years they both have grown and dried white zinnias, their specialty, an important component for so many dried arrangements. Once years ago Jane heard another arranger comment that they never had enough white flowers - thus the “specialty" was begun.
They are growing white zinnias again this year and are advisors and consultants to this year's co-chairs, Nancy Weitz and Melinda Ameson. The Herndon’s memory bank of the previous sales and house tours has been invaluable, as well as their knowledge of all the people involved over the years and their experiences.
So obvious to all w ho know them, Jane and Maurice have tremendous love and enthusiasm for each other, for their church, and for the community. These have also been their most valuable contributions, for 25 years, to the house tour and flower sale.
Recently, Jane fell and broke a rib. Despite the pain.
