Mother’s badge and presented to his father the Eagle Dad’s tie tac. He was then charged by the Court, “to undertake your citizenship with a solemn dedication” and “so live and serve, that those who know you will be inspired to finer living”. The ceremony concluded with Massie’s polished remarks telling what Scouting had meant to him, and thanking those who had helped him along the way.
In addition to Scouting, Massie has participated in a multitude of other activities. A member of the RCHS Honor Society, Yearbook Staff and Starfish Mentoring Program, he has also devoted much time to 4-H club activities, receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor Bronze and Silver Awards, serving as the club’s President and being tapped into the Virginia 4-H All Stars.
Most recently he received the John Sawhill Environment Award from the Headwaters Foundation and the Presidential Youth Award from the Salem Ruritan.
He is an active member of the youth group at Washington Baptist Church and plans to study Environmental Science in college next fall.
Massie is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Massie Sr. of Amissville and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Furmage of Falls Church.
