/\uer reading tne Sperryville news last week we thought our readers would be interested to know that Slate Mills and Boston residents were privileged to have doctors also. We first learned of Dr. Oscar Quaintance who opened practice in Slate Mills in the early 1930’s and he had two sons who followed in his footsteps and opened their practices in West Virginia, where their patients were coal miners.
Upon the death of Dr. Oscar, son Walter returned to Slate Mills and took up practice at the same location. Then upon his passing, brother, Rupert Quaintance Sr. returned to Slate Mills, and continued there until his death.
Next in line was Rupert, Jr. who practiced for some time in the same Quaintance home. He later moved his practice to Culpeper and continued there until just a few years ago, when he passed away.
We don’t remember where he came from, but in the early 1970’s, a Dr. George Bendlage opened his practice here in Boston, near the Thornhill residences at Round Hill. This writer’s late husband was one of his patients. Some time later Dr. Bendlage purchased property and moved to Griffinsburg.
