With races worth more than $137,500, the Cup leads Virginia’s week’s worth of ‘chasing worth upwards of $337,500.
The National Steeplechase Association, which also sanctions the Virginia dates, hosts a parade of 18 racing days worth $1.7 million.
New this year to the NSA calendar is the inaugural Shawan Downs meet in Maryland. The Hunt Valley race will host the $25,000 Maryland Million ‘chase. The NSA moved the Far Hills, N.J. meeting date to now share Oct. 20 with the Gold Cup. Conditions of races at both, NSA director of racing Bill Gallo explained, were written to complement, not rival, each other.
