"Her work is just so exceptional,” said Diane Jones, executive director of the Virginia Gold Cup Association. “She is able to truly capture the expressions of the horses and the essence of the event.”
The 2001 International Gold Cup painting, “On the Final Turn,” depicts jockeys and horses as they head toward the finish at Great Meadow. Viewers can feel the tension as horses and riders vie for first place. Clearly visible in the painting are Meadow landmarks such as the distinctive steward’s tower, with Member’s Hill rising in the background.
Other artists selected for International and Virginia Gold Cup work in the past include the late Jean Bowman, the late Heather St. Clair Davis, Sandra Fortush, Anita Baarns, Else Tuckerman and more.
