Gene Bertoncini and Frank Vignola, two famous jazz guitarists from New York, return for a third year to the Theatre at Washington, Va., on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. Their previous concerts here have drawn large and appreciative audiences from a wide area.
Bertoncini’s fluid technique and lyricism have won him international praise and such accolades as the “Segovia of jazz.” He recently returned from performing solo in a Jazz Festival held on the Queen Elizabeth II, giving concerts in London and Ireland, and lecturing at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Over the years he has performed or recorded with many of the jazz greats, such as Benny Goodman, Buddy Rich, and Wayne Shorter and, among distinguished vocalists, Tony Bennett, Carmen McRae and Lena Horne, Vic Damone and Edye Gorme. He has also performed with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
