The Rappahannock Historical Society is neither for nor against cell towers. That is not part of our mission. We-are for the good faith conduct of the historic review process that is supposed to be a part of the applications and we are against any action on an application if that review has not been completed. We should not be a silent witness to a process that denies the historic properties of Rappahannock County the protection the National Historic Preservation Act was intended to provide to ensure their integrity. That must be a part of our mission.
Finally, I object for the record to the repeated characterization of the Rappahannock Historical Society as a “special interest” group. We are a voluntary membership, non-profit organization, open to one and all. We count 230 households in our membership, of which"T41 are in Rappahannock Couifty and all 230 of which haveToots of one kind or another in Rappahannock County. Our • charter states our mission to be “to draw together, in a spirit of cooperation, all our people who are interested in searching out and preserving our heritage in; Rappahannock County.” I call that a common interest, not a special interest, one that s©ek$ to unite our people, not divide them.
