John Eaton, celebrated jazz pianist and witty raconteur. performs at The Theatre at Washington, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. Jazz is a broad description of Eaton’s musical style.
His playing encompasses swing, ragtime, and more. The concert in “Little" Washington will include music of Gershwin. Ellington. Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael a" all interspersed with Eaton's trademark humorous commentary.
Eaton has given more than 200 sold-out lecture/concerts of American popular song, in a series which he developed for the Smithsonian Institution. The series, which was performed both in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere, was broadcast on National Public Radio.
Throughout the decades in which Eaton has been delighting audiences in Washington, D.C., and far beyond, he has been accorded accolades galore. Writing in The Nation, Nat Hentoff described him as “the complete pianist a” a bemused master of just about the whole spectrum of jazz language. His taste, imagination, wit, and I would say wisdom, flow with such naturalness.” The New York Times referred to the element of “surprise” in Eaton’s
class will serve refreshments after the meeting, and officers of the league will be available to answer questions.
