I his one-woman play speaks of the violence done to the three woman, to their methods of contending, to the wisdom that results, and to the impact of violence—even that done to others—on us all. The play blends Julie Portman’s dream with the truths of such injustices, and with the strengths that are born from the encounters by these three roses and by those who listen.
“Everyone has the capability to heal;” Ms. Portman said, “and every way in which we’ve helped others to heal effects everyone.” She said that that is what Three Roses is—”It’s not a story of darkness, but of healing and hope.”
Live performances of Three Roses were attended by Academy Award winning independent video and filmmaker Paul Wagner, who agreed direct the filming of the play. The result of his work is the ninety minute video that will be broadcast by PBS stations WOVE Richmond and WHTJ Charlottesville on Oct. 21 and Oct. 28, and that is available from Ki Theatre for $29.95.
