Coach Oz’s U-10 team won a thriller of a game against visiting Madison. At half-time, our team was losing 2-1 with our only score coming from Huck Pace. Then the second half began and Madison scored again. Instead of giving up. Coach Oz’s team became fired up. Strong cross passing, relentless strikes at the Madison’s goal and the scores by Brian Shafrah, Daniel Clemments and Zack Wayland helped to create a great come from behind win! Pinal score was 4-3. This game was definitely a crowd pleaser!
The Blue Lightning U-12 Rapp girls took on Fauquier in New Baltimore this past Saturday. The Rapp girls looked very’ impressive early as they had several shots on goal by Ella Miller, Hannah Rosenbaum, Emily Carter and Osha Kondori using speed, good footwork and passing. Megan Wheatley had several big stops as the Blue Lightning first half goalie. Fauquier scored about midway through the first half on a slicing comer shot.
The Rapp girls countered quickly on an excellent upfield pass from Noel Johns to Hannah Rosenbaum. Hannah then beat the Fauquier defense and goalie knotting the score at 1 apiece. Nearing the end of the first half Blue Lightning defender Emma Hathaway saved a goal by kicking the ball out of the goal area when Rapp goalie Megan Wheatley found herself on the ground after colliding with a Fauquier striker on a save. When the whistle blew ending the first half the Blue Lightning girls and Fauquier girls were all even.
The second half saw the ball bouncing Fauquier’s way. Megan, Hannah, Emily, Lily Day, and Tiana Lucking continued to push the ball down the field on offense. Ella, Jordan Lysaght, Kylie Harlow, Maia Lucking, Caroline Massie, Alicia Smith, Emma Dodd-Henze and Alana Bryn-Cloud shored up the midfield and defensive units.
As both teams tried to get their offenses going, Fauquier quickly found themselves two goals on deflected shots. Suddenly our Blue Lightning found themselves down 3-1 trying to put together some offense against a now defensive minded Fauquier.
