A public hearing was held at the Oct. 10 meeting of the Washington Town Council to select a councilperson to fill the seat vacated by Alice Butler. who assumed Town Treasurer duties. In the absence of candidate nominations from public attendees. Mayor Stew Willis nominated Bill Tieckelmann. but Mr. Tieckelmann’s nomination did not draw' a second.
Council member Charlie Tompkins instead nominated Jerry Goebel, and that nomination was seconded by Reinhardt Lynch andt okayed by the Council. *“
A second hearing was held on a one year Special Use Permit extension for Rappahannock Bazaar’s use of the former Black Kettle restaurant for its teen club, Club Getaway. There was no opposition to this continued use. and Mayor Willis moved to approve the extension and the Council unanimously agreed.
A scheduled hearing on Rappahannock National Bank's Special Use Permit for drive-in facilities was again tabled at the request of the bank, and will be heard in November, unless further delay is sought.
Capital projects
Mayor Willis addresser! both the „x&£tu:yoir. and waste water treat merit projects. He raised the prospect of seeking some financing for the new reservoir so that more funds would be available for the possible purchase of Avon Hall. He suggested seeking $200,000 in financing of the $000,000 estimated for the reservoir, and he noted that he expected that as much as $100,000 of that could be received as a grant.
The Mayor also asked for and received Council okay to obligate $16,600 of the water w orks reserves for engineering and environmental work on the reservoir by the firm of Greeley and Hanson.
