Inis past Friday, the Boys Soccer team traveled to Fredericksburg to play against Fredericksburg Academy at their Homecoming game. WCDS won, with the score 2-1.

Miguel Padilla, who is an exchange student at WCDS and lives with Mr. and Mrs. Michael Manak, scored the first goal for WCDS, and Carter Bruce, son of Mr. and Mrs. Manly Bruce powered in the wining goal.

• Homecoming festivities will be taking place Oct. 20 at Wakefield County Day School. The annual soccer game between the Soccer team and faculty, parents, and alumni will take place on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Booths will be set up selling food, crafts, and fall plants. The festive Homecoming dance will be held later that night for the Prep School students.

• Plans are afoot for the school’s tribute to International Day in November. WCDS is very fortunate to have 17 international students this year, all of which are boarding with host families.

Students from Korea, Japan, Ireland, Haiti, Spain, Mexico, China, Egypt, and Turkey will be celebrating their countries and their heritage. Foods from their countries will be presented to all of the students at WCDS, as well as tables with special mementos from each country.

• Principal, Mr. Michael F. Vargo of Wakefield Country Day school recently announced that Judson Hurlbert has been named Commended Student in the 2002 National Merit Scholarship Program.

A letter of Commendation trom the school and National

Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to this scholastically talented senior.
