Garden, in preparation lor the June 5th Graduation Ceremony. Hearthstone School.
Gardening teachers, Wendi Sirat and Pine Phillips, have been working with Hearthstone’s high school students to create a nature trail along the river. They have carefully cleared growth an<f have mulched a path that continues the length of the property to the point where it adjoins the Shenandoah National Park. They have begun to plant medicinal native plants along the edges that include wild yam, ginger, black cohosh, and bloodroot. Art teacher, Davette Leonard, received a grant that is allowing the students to paint pictures of the local plant life. Students will include the medicinal plants, as well, as they look toward using their paintings to design a kiosk at the school to be enjoyed by the community and tourists that pass by on their way to the Park.
