She was born in Rock Mills, Rappahannock County to William O. Norman and his wife Millie Settle Norman.
Hawkins was one of ten children, Lucy, James Turner, Susie, Captain, Sallie, Lizzie, Pete, Margaret, Henry and Lou. All are deceased now, but she and her sister, Lou Fortune of Strasburg.
She was raised on a farm and knew the hard work of growing com, milking cows, raising hogs, chickens and cooking delicious meals.
Hawkins attended school at Frytown, building is gone now, but was located on the south side of Rock Mills Road where Benjamin Hawkins lived, near intersection of Rock Mills Road and Rudasill Mill Road. At the age 21, on April 18, 1927 she married Raymond Hawkins and together they farmed and raised five boys and one girl. During the 1950’s she worked for the Rappahannock School system as a cook at the old combined Washington High School and Grade School.
Her life has consisted of a generosity for others and her love for her Lord Jesus Christ. A life time member of Five Forks Regular Baptist Church and the Bible Baptist Church in Culpeper.
