The weekend of May 2022 will be a celebration of the arts at Grace Episcopal Church in The Plains, beginning with The Gala Opening of the 58th Annual Neighborhood Art Show and Sale, Friday from 6-8:30 p.m.
The opening reception promises patrons a feast for the eyes while enjoying fine food and drink.
Hundreds of original, regional works in all media will be displayed, including oil and watercolor painting, photography and graphic media, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, mixed and other media.
The exhibit includes the work of regional artists within a radius of 75 miles.
This event provides a wonderful opportunity to meet area artists and buy original works rarely offered for sale.
Artwork of talented emerging and mature artists will be on display, along with new artwork by established professionals.
A student exhibit concurrent with the adult entries will highlight the best creative efforts of young talent.
The show and sale continues through the weekend, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Art Show Gallery will reopen Sunday for a special reception with Four Nations Ensemble following their concert which begins at 5 p.m.
“Torch Songs — Hope and Heartache from Bach to Bernstein” includes music spanning two centuries with themes of love and longing.
The Art Show continues a rich tradition of highlighting area artists since 1947, and is a part of the year-long celebration at Grace Church commemorating 150 as a parish.
The first exhibit of local artists was held in 1947, initiated by The Reverend Harold Peters, as a fundraising project of the Episcopal Church Women.
Now the entire parish and a broad community of artists and patrons contribute to the success of this event.
Proceeds from exhibitor entries, sponsors, admissions and purchases will benefit area outreach through contributions to local non-profit organizations and worldwide relief efforts.
Earlier this year, Grace Church Outreach contributed $5000 for relief to tsunami victims.
Last year, $5000 of proceeds served as seed money to complete a Habitat house in Turnbull with other churches.
Additional funds support in-house efforts like Grace Church food pantry.
