Benefit Tour of Jessamine Hill
The Rappahannock Historical Society reminds everyone of its benefit tour of Jessamine Hill will be held on Saturday, May 21 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. A special feature of the afternoon’s activities will be “historical civil war vignettes” (including a visit by “Col. John Singleton Mosby”), music of the old South, presentations on Civil War encampments, the work of women in the Southern Grey, and a short discussion of the property’s fascinating history by the current owner of the farm, John Anderson. Tickets are $20 and available at the Rappahannock Historical Society’s offices at 328 Gay Street, Washington, VA 22747, or by calling (540) 675-1163.
The Kennedy Center Chamber
Players
The Kennedy Center Chamber Players will play music of Beethoven and Brahms on Sunday, May 22 at 4 p.m at The Theatre in Washington. The players consists of Loren Kitt, clarinet, David Hardy, cello, Lambert Orkis, Piano. Seating is reserved for the concert. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students 18 and under. GED Test
The GED test is coming to Rappahannock County on May, 24. This is the real GED test and not a practice test. The GED testing center at GWC-Piedmont Technical Center is taking the test on the road in order to meet the needs of the rural communities they serve. Additionally, the Chief Examiner has split the test up in order to make it easier to focus on two subjects at a time.
The GED test battery is five subjects: Language Arts, Writing; Language Arts, Reading; Social Studies; Science; and Mathematics. The cost of the GED test is $35 and must be paid by money order made out to Orange County School Board. You must pre-register in order to take the test and can do this at the Rappahannock County School Board office on Rt. 211. Anyone in need of a GED and over the age of 18 can take the test. If you have any questions, call the Regional Adult Education office at 825-0476.
