With the revision of the Comprehensive Plan on the horizon for the Town of Washington, members of Town Council have become aware of the threat of growth with the current plan in effect.
Therefore, discussion was considerable when the agenda for this month’s meeting required consideration for Pleasant View of Rappahannock, LLC Subdivision, continued from December 8, 2004.
The property, owned by Jimmy and Beth DeBergh of Washington, was first brought before council, requesting an extension of Wheeler Street for the subdivision entrance. A portion of the property lies within the town’s limits, with a greater portion of the boundary falling in Rappahannock County.
Thus, County Administrator John McCarthy was an invited guest, appearing with Town Council to respond to any questions that might arise.
According to Mike Brown, attorney for the DeBergh’s, there has been a revision to the original plat, basically cleaning up the lot lines, as well as road and “other technical issues,” including keeping Gay Street and Wheeler Street in accordance with the grid structure of the town.
Having met previously with Brown and reviewed the new plat, McCarthy advised council that the plan does “meet all of the condition of the county’s subdivision ordinance.”
In the updated plat, two of the lots will lie completely within the county, Lots 2 and 4, while Lots 1 and 3 lie partially within the town and partially in the county.
According to Brown, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has stated that a right-of-way can be issued on Lot 3, providing a private road into the subdivision. This road will not be built or maintained by VDOT, but will need to conform to regulations set by VDOT.
Brown advised that he would speak with the DeBerghs and request that they agree to build the road
