Knowing what to do before, during and aftef severe storms can mean the difference between life and death. Coastal residents must be ready to either ride out a storm at home or to evacuate, while inland residents must know how to prepare for floods and high winds.
To alert citizens to the potential dangers of hurricanes and floods, and to educate them about preparing for these natural hazards, Governor Mark R. Warner has declared May 15-21 as Hurricane and Flood Preparedness Week in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
