An idea for helping Rappahannock farmers that first started percolating in 2002 received a solid financial boost Saturday night.
A capacity crowd gathered at the home of Judith Richards Hope to honor last year’s easement donors and raise funds for the county Farmland Preservation Program.
More than 220 county residents and neighbors heard Bob Lee, Executive Director of the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, describe ways residents can work to keep the county the way it is— rural and scenic, with abundant forests and open space.
The event was sponsored by the Rappahannock County Conservation Alliance (RCCA), a group that encourages landowners to donate easements, and provides financial support for the county Farmland Preservation Program.
County residents showed their support for easements in general and the Farmland Preservation Program in particular by over-subscribing Saturday’s First Annual RCCA Evening Event.
After setting a goal of 100, RCCA received well over that number through word of mouth even before .the invitations were mailed. More than a dozen people were on the waiting list when the list was closed for lack of additional space.
