Geospatial Technologies is a pilot class for the state of Virginia and RCHS is one of eight schools in the state to pilot the class. The competition in Geospatial technologies at Technosphere was an inaugural competition and students from RCHS were the first ever state champions.
“This is a major accomplishment for thio team. These students have only been learning to use ESRI’s software since late January. All of the other schools in the pilot are not on semester block schedule and their students have had class since late August,” said Ron Vickers. The team had to submit a notebook of data files collected for the Hampton area to take with them. They did not know the on-site live program until the stated contest time.
