Mom would say, “Tom is well hope up.” My wife remembers the expression as “Well hoped up.” Either way, the only sense I can make of this ... if there is any to make of it .. is that the object of the term is as well off as he/it could hope to be, i.e., all his wishes or hopes are fulfilled, so, he is “well hope up.” Is anyone familiar with this term or its origin? Do you have any different interpretations of it? If you do, please let me know.
