What is the Farmland Preservation Program?
The Farmland Preservation Program .s an easement program based on the purchase of development rights (PDR), an exchange that offers cash for open space. PDR programs are endorsed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and used in our area in Albemarle, Clarke, Fauquier, and Loudoun Counties. The Farmland Preservation Program is the state’s newest PDR program.
The program targets working farmers. Local farmers who may be tempted to sell to developers can keep their property intact, pass it on to their children, and otherwise use their land for any purpose that keeps the property relatively undivided.
