Our community is a sadder place since we lost a dear friend, Roger Batchelder, who passed away at his residence on Monday, May 9. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 14 on the top of Massie Mountain in Washington. Batchelder loved that mountain, there were times when he Would come into the Rappahannock News to purchase a paper, he would often say to me I am going to my quiet mountain to read the newspaper and relax.

As I go by Massie Mountain each day on my way to and from work and see that big flag blowing in the breeze, the memory of Batchelder will always be with me, because we shared one thing together, the beautiful Massie Mountain view. His spirit will always be on that mountain top. Our hearts goes out to his wife, Jane and family. Batchelder will be greatly miss by everyone who knew him.

Happy birthday to Jonathan Clatterbuck, who celebrated 21 years on Wednesday, May 11. Seem like it was just yesterday when he was riding the big yellow bus to school.
