• Never upload pictures of themselves onto the Internet.
• Never download pictures from an unknown source.
• Never give out personal information on the Internet or in a user profile.
• The people your child may be communicating with online may not be who they say they are.
“Unfortunately the same advances in computer and telecommunication technology that allow our children to reach out to new sources of knowledge and cultural experiences are also leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and harm by computer-sex offenders,” said Louis J. Freeh, Former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
“It is frightening what children can see online,” said Rappahannock County Sheriff Larry Sherertz, “If I am getting the pop-ups and e-mails with firewalls on the computer, I know children are getting them. Parents really need to be aware.”
