As you can imagine, eventually, the tortoise is riding on the back of the cart, without his coat, without his lunch, without his water, etc., etc., and the rabbit is up front, with the tortoise’s coat, well fed and watered, and still complaining and mumbling.
As I remember the outcome of the fable, the tortoise finally sees the light, stops the cart, takes his coat bacK, puts the rabbit afoot, and proceeds on his way to town. But, perhaps, that is just the way I want to remember the story.
