Council offered a proposed budget for the fiscal year 2005-2006 with a total income of $2,495,900 and total expenditures equaling that amount.
Included in the draft budget is the proposed sale of Avon Hall in Washington. The estimated proceed of that sale is shown as $2,145,250. Numerous questions were asked concerning the budget by town resident Diane Bruce, including the date that the $500,000 loan for the Avon Hall property is due to be paid in full.
Council member and treasurer, Jerry Goebel advised that the loan is due to be paid by April, 2006. Council also budgeted $31,500 for repairs of water damage at Avon Hall. Those repairs have not been done at this time, awaiting a contractor to give an estimate based upon the adjustment made by the town’s insurance carrier.
While the town has proposed sale of Avon Hall, Leggett advised council later during the meeting that Herb White of WW Associates is having a survey done of the property to see if it is suitable for the town’s proposed wastewater treatment facility.
According to Leggett, the town is planning to install an above-ground treatment center similar to the wastewater treatment facility in Sperryville.
